McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have reportedly completed R&D on their new McLaren Mercedes SLR convertible. The car may be officially presented to the public within the next six months.
The new model will closely resemble the Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR concept (pictured), which debuted at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show, nine months after the coupe prototype was unveiled at the Detroit auto show.

It is unclear whether the Mercedes-Benz P8, two-passenger coupe will be produced, but there is word that the new Mercedes management has put it back on the drawing board. The car would be manufactured by partner McLaren, which makes the SLR. It would be powered by the new AMG-engineered, 510-hp, 6.3-liter V-8. It could appear as early as 2008.
