Lotus Exige 265E: The World's Fastest Ethanol Vehicle
Committed to the environmental benefits of ethanol? Determined to drive really, really fast? Lotus is about to help you out. They have just unveiled the Lotus Exige 265E, the fastest ethanol vehicle on the planet.
It’s also the most powerful Exige that has yet seen the road. The vehicle weighs a trim 2,050 pounds. The E85 engine, which is a modified version of the same Toyota powerplant that has shown up in other Exiges, kicks out 265 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. It can hit 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.88 seconds, and 100 mph in 9.2 seconds. The top speed will certainly get cops' attention: 158 mph.
Lotus isn’t stopping at creating a car that can just run on ethanol. Their next project will be to modify the car so that it can run on several different fuels, providing flexibility to match the performance.
